There are times when art is made and times when it has to be made.
This is one of those times. This summer I was planning on directing
a gender bending version of 12 Angry Jurors for the fall semester at
Spelman. But every morning I woke up, I was witness to tragedy
after tragedy of African Americans breath being stolen from them
before they could reach the full potential of that breath and I could
not let my art be entertaining this season. I set out to motivate, to
activate, to participate, to invigorate, and most of all to mandate my
student artists to use their art to become ARTIVIST. What we have
assembled in this piece, through just a few weeks of rehearsal, is
turning these one-person monologues on their heads and making
them a community effort-onstage and off. I know that you will be
moved by this piece and my greatest desire is that it will move you
into your own sphere of creativity and awaken the ARTIVISTS in-
side of each and Every One of you....

Artistically,

Keith Arthur Bolden, MFA
